When looking at stats for my office last week, Jay Cutler By The Numbers, I noticed a few other current Chicago Bears that were rapidly moving up the ranks. They're within reach of some milestones, so this time out I'll spotlight a few of those players. Pro Football Reference was my go to place for the numbers.
Matt Forte is just 257 rushing yards behind Thomas Jones for 5th all time and 180 rushing attempts behind Gale Sayers for 4th all time.
His 171 receptions currently ranks him 26th, but he's a good season away from catching Harlon Hill's 226 for 11th.
Greg Olsen is quickly moving up the receiving ranks. He currently sits at 17th with 194, only 48 catches behind Desmond Clark for 9th all time in Chicago History, and that would give him the 2nd most prolific TE in Bears history. His 20 receiving TDs ranks him 16th and the top ten is just 3 more scores away.
Brian Urlacher will go into 4th all time in sacks with only 2.5 in 2011. And if he plays in all 16 games, he'll go into a tie with Richard Dent for 3rd rank in games played on defense with 170.
Charles Tillman can tie Donnell Woolford for 3rd all time in interceptions with 5 more. He currently has 27. If he has 20 more return yards from interceptions he'll go into 2nd place all time in that category, and he's 174 yards out from Richie Petitbon's all time Bears mark of 643 int return yards. His 23 forced fumbles is 2nd behind Hall Of Famer Dent's 34.
Devin Hester has 2,724 punt return yards, only 57 yards shy of Sayers and 161 behind Jerry Azumah for 3rd all time. With only 7 more kickoff returns he'll go into 3rd all time in that category. And he needs 2 more kickoff return TDs to tie Sayers for the team lead of 6.
Robbie Gould is just 65 points behind Walter Payton for 2nd all time in scoring. He'll go into 2nd all time in special points made with only 39 more, passing George Blanda. If he attempts 20 more field goals he'll become 2nd all time in that stat behind Kevin Butler.
I reckon it's a long shot for him to return, but Brad Maynard needs just 6 more punts to be the all time Bears punter.
