HEAR THE SOUNDS: EL CHICANO

EL CHICANO

Below are 2 tracks I recorded to share. Enjoy

One of the scoop and most successful bands to issue from the musically fertile soil of East Los Angeles is El Chicano. Originally formed as the V.I.P.s in the late 60's, the group recorded a rendering of a call by jazz composer Gerald Wilson, "Viva Tirado," an homage to a Mexican bullfighter by the list of Jose Ramon Tirado.

Chic Music Photos: Dub dot dash: El Chicano

El_Chicano-Viva_Tirado_b Dub dot dash: El Chicano
I first discovered the tune Viva Tirado on an album of the same name by a Mexcian-American band from LA called El Chicano. There were several reasons I picked up this album; the liner notes listed the nationalities of the set and recording team, including it being engineered by ".a cat who is half English and half Mexican, a New Zealander and a Scotchman" [I wonder who that Kiwi was?];
