Chick Corea has long been a lord of improvisation. Whether in a solo or group context, his abilities to make magic out of thin air have never failed to impress. He also pioneered the relatively late growth of two-piano improvisation, by running with players such as Herbie Hancock, Friedrich Gulda, Nicolas Economou, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba. For his first ECM recording in 27 years, Corea was teamed with Stefano Bollani for an advanced course in two-piano improvisation.

Chick`s newest trio finds him in the society of a stellar rhythm tandem: bassist Christian McBride (Sting, Pat Metheny, McCoy Tyner), one of the most outstanding and famous musicians of his generation, and drummer extraordinaire Brian Blade (Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and longstanding member of the Wayne Shorter Quartet).This same trio formed the rhythmic backbone of the Five Peace Band on its turn of Asia and Us in 2009. As a trio, they`ll take up the musical dialogue that started there-dynamic, deeply interactive and irrepressibly swinging.

A groundbreaking artist both as a keyboardist (piano, electric piano, synthesizer) and as a composerarranger, Chick Corea has moved fluidly among jazz, fusion, and classical music throughout a four-decade career, winning national and international honors including 15 Grammy Awards. He ranks with Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett as one of the leading piano stylists to emerge after Bill Evans and McCoy Tyner, and he has composed such notable jazz standards as "Spain," "La Fiesta," and "Windows."

Corea began playing softly and drums at an early age and enjoyed a childhood home filled with the medicine of Bud Powell, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Lester Young, as good as Mozart and Beethoven. From 1962 to 1966 he gained experience playing with the bands of Mongo Santamaria and Willie Bobo, Blue Mitchell, Herbie Mann, and Stan Getz. He made his recording debut as a leader with TonesFor Joan's Bones (1966) and in 1968 recorded the definitive trio album Now He Sings, Now He Sobs with Miroslav Vitous and Roy Haynes. Following a short period with Sarah Vaughan, Corea then joined Miles Davis' group, gradually replacing Herbie Hancock. Davis persuaded Corea to run electric piano on the influential albums Fillesde Kilimanjaro, In a Silent Way, Bitches Brew, and Miles Davis atthe Fillmore.

In 1971, Corea formed the ensemble Return to Forever with Stanley Clarke on bass, Flora Purim on vocals, her husband Airto Moreira on drums, and Joe Farrell on reeds. Within a year, the samba-flavored group had become an innovative, high-energy electric fusion band, incorporating the firepower of drummer Lenny White and guitarist Al DiMeola. Spearheaded by Corea's distinctive style on Moog synthesizer, Return to Forever led the mid-1970s fusion movement with albums such as Where Have I Known You Before,Romantic Warrior, and the Grammy Award-winning No Mystery. In 1985, Corea formed a new fusion group, The Elektric Band, and a few days afterwards he formed The Akoustic Band. In 1992, he accomplished his own record label, Stretch Records.

On the function of his sixtieth birthday in 2001, Corea put together an unprecedented musical gathering at the Aristocratic Note Jazz Club in New York City. The three-week event resulted in a double CD, Rendezvousin New York, and a two-hour film of the sami name. In 2008, he reunited the classic Return to Forever band and embarked on a worldwide tour. He continues to create projects in multifaceted settings for listeners about the world.
